Culturally Responsive Teaching Strategies 8:30-2:30
With BC’s new school curriculum having such a strong Aboriginal focus, it is now more critical than ever to be a culturally responsive teacher. This full-day workshop will help teachers become more culturally responsive in their practice. While this workshop will focus on Aboriginal cultures, the strategies learned in it can be applied to help all bicultural students become more engaged.
Learning Outcomes:
Teachers will
a) leave the workshop with a deeper understanding of Aboriginal worldviews, perspectives and, more importantly, their Aboriginal students;
b) improve their practice by making their pedagogy more culturally responsive.
Research shows that students who feel connected to their school and classroom cultures, experience greater academic success than those learners who feel alienated at school. Those same studies show also that by changing your practice to being a more culturally responsive one, teachers can help their bicultural students realize their academic potential.
